| Two BU18 MFC players recognized by MSG Varsity Networks Top 20 - Friday, August 26, 2011 Ryan Young,
John Jay-EF (senior, striker) -
Physical striker turned it on when it mattered most in 2010, burying three of his team-high 10 goals during a four-game playoff run that ended with a loss to Scarsdale in the Section 1 Class AA finals. Young, who was a terror in the air on crosses and set plays, also flashed his ability to take on defenders and create for his teammates. He's looking to play his college ball at either Binghamton, Iona or Vassar. Young's also a member of Middlepath FC.
Darren Gomez,
John Jay-EF (senior, defense) —
Sturdy center back was named all-section in 2010, however, he missed the playoffs due to a torn ACL. Prior to the injury, John Jay coach Robert Seipp said Gomez had been their best player. Look for him to return to form and stabilize the Patriots' defense. Like teammate Ryan Young, Gomez plays his club ball for Middlepath.
